When a writer begins working on a manuscript, he might not want to spend his time thinking of last names. He probably doesn’t want his characters to have the generic last names Smith, Jones, or Johnson. At the same time, he may want his characters to have familiar last names. The internet is quite helpful when one wants to find lists of first names; even last names can be found by searching the internet, but often one has to browse through page after page, when a simple list of just a few choices will do.

Spend More Time Creating a Story
When a writer needs a last name for a character, it’s helpful to simply browse through a list, trying the first name with the last, checking for the way it flows and the impression it gives. Fiction writers want memorable names for their characters but many times don’t want to spend hours or even days trying to choose the perfect last name. A writer can access this list or one like it any time she wants to start writing and spend less time thinking of a last name to use.
