Good for you, Bedwyn. My first reader was my mother as well. She's not a writer, but reads voraciously and knows what works and what doesn't. She was a little soft on me, though, until my second book manuscript when I told her I appreciated the critical comments, and she said, "Oh, well, in that case . . . " and went on to list a few more!
